Based in Bradford we develop products entirely in-house from concept and engineering through machining assembly testing and aftermarket support.

Job Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of new products as well as the delivery of Innovation to Value (i2V) initiatives across the Ingersoll Rand Transport Solutions (IRTS) product portfolio.

The role has equal accountability for:

• Developing new products and product enhancements that meet customer performance quality and regulatory requirements
• Driving engineeringled value creation and cost reduction across existing and new products

By working across the full product lifecycle the Design Engineer ensures that cost manufacturability standardisation and customer value are embedded into designs from concept through industrialisation and into series production.

The role works closely with Product Management Engineering i2V Leadership Manufacturing Sourcing Quality and Operations to support IRTS growth margin and competitiveness objectives.

Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

• Design and develop new products assemblies and components
• Create CAD models manufacturing drawings calculations and technical specifications
• Take designs from concept through validation and production release
• Apply Design for Manufacture Assembly Reliability and Cost principles
• Ensure products meet performance quality and regulatory requirements

Product Improvement & Value Engineering

• Support product upgrades cost-reduction initiatives and design optimisation projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations
• Identify opportunities to improve performance manufacturability and customer value
• Implement engineering solutions that support competitiveness and long-term product growth

Collaboration & Delivery

• Work closely with Manufacturing Sourcing Quality and Product Management teams
• Engage suppliers on component design and new technologies
• Support successful transfer of designs into production
• Participate in technical reviews and problem-solving activities

Qualifications

Essential

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
• Experience in product development mechanical design or value engineering
• Experience working with mechanical systems such as compressors rotating machinery pneumatic systems commercial vehicles or industrial machinery
• Strong CAD and technical drawing skills including GD&T
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD systems
• Experience managing BOMs and working with ERP systems such as SAP
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Desirable

• Knowledge of Lean DFSS or continuous improvement methodologies
• Experience introducing products into manufacture
• Track record of developing commercially successful products
