Our training contracts consist of four six-month seats and well get you started with a full and comprehensive induction designed to help you settle into life here.

Choosing from our broad-ranging practice areas your programme will typically include a contentious seat a non-contentious seat a real estate seat and an optional seat (which could be an international secondment or working for a client). Youll get involved in interesting casework for an exceptional scope of clients enjoying top tier training in a high performing hugely encouraging culture

As a leading sector-focused international law firm we also offer two 12-month sector seats with the aim to broaden trainees understanding of the firm and the wider market expanding their networks and commercial awareness.

Itll be a continuous learning journey with one-to-one guidance from a partner mentor a dedicated supervisor the Early Talent team and of course the strong support network of legal experts all around you.

Prior to your training contract well sponsor you to complete the Postgraduate Diploma (law conversion course) and/or LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) as applicable at the University of Law.

In addition to covering course fees we provide a maintenance grant per course of 7000 for London trainees and 5500 for Birmingham trainees.

We will be running our virtual Discover Gowling WLG: Sector Series from 8 October to 5 November 2026. The series provides an opportunity to hear directly from our lawyers and trainees and learn about our sector focus. We encourage prospective applicants to attend the series before or alongside preparing their application.
