Literacy Teaching Assistant - What the Role Involves

• Delivering targeted phonics reading and writing intervention sessions to individuals and small groups across the primary age range
• Supporting class teachers during English lessons to ensure every pupil can access and engage with the literacy curriculum
• Working with pupils identified as requiring additional literacy support using structured evidence-based programmes
• Tracking pupil reading and writing progress and feeding back regularly to the class teacher and English lead
• Building warm encouraging relationships with pupils who may have previously struggled with or disengaged from literacy

Literacy Teaching Assistant - What the School is Looking For

The ideal Literacy Teaching Assistant will hold a 2:1 or 1st Class degree from a top 30 UK university ideally in English Education or a related Humanities discipline. Previous child-centred experience in a UK primary school setting is highly valued. The school is seeking a passionate patient and creative Literacy Teaching Assistant with strong communication skills and a genuine love of language reading and writing.

• 444 per week pro rata to term time only
• Full-time long-term contract from September 2026 to July 2027
• Term-time only
