6-month contract role with a local authority
Summary
- This is a 6-month contract role with a local authority aimed at providing high-quality legal advice and representation on a wide range of licensing matters. The Licensing Lawyer will ensure the Councils regulatory and licensing functions are delivered in accordance with legislation policy and best practice. The role involves managing a varied caseload supporting Licensing Committees and Sub-Committees representing the Council in legal proceedings and contributing to the effective governance of licensing decisions.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality legal advice and guidance on all aspects of licensing law to officers senior management and elected Members.
- Advise on matters relating to the Licensing Act 2003 Gambling Act 2005 Local Government legislation and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Draft and review legal documents notices determinations policies reports and agreements.
- Attend Licensing Committee and Licensing Sub-Committee hearings including evening meetings where required.
- Provide legal procedural and governance advice to Members during hearings and decision-making processes.
- Ensure decisions are legally robust and compliant with statutory requirements.
Requirements
Essential Experience Required
- Proven experience managing a caseload of licensing matters within a local authority public sector organisation or private practice.
- Experience advising committees elected Members and senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrable advocacy experience before Licensing Sub-Committees tribunals courts or similar forums.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Qualified Solicitor Barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) entitled to practise in England and Wales.
