Position: Domain Expert Legal (Lexis Research)
Type: Contract
Compensation: $76$120/hour
Location: Remote

Role Responsibilities

• Confirm every case statute and regulation is still good law for the point cited. Catch negative Shepards treatment.
• Catch non-existent or misdescribed cases. Verify quotes holdings and pin cites.
• Judge completeness by ensuring controlling authority is found and on-point cases are not missed. Maintain distinct 50-state/multi-jurisdiction splits.
• Verify currency by checking the version of the law in force on the operative date.
• Distinguish binding vs. persuasive authority. Require verify-before-finalize.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• Frequent Lexis use - weekly or more - for substantive legal research in your current or recent role
• 2 years of professional legal-research experience
• Reflexive Shepards/KeyCite use; can spot a bad cite misstated holding or superseded statute on sight
• J.D. and bar admission MLIS / law librarian or equivalent research-heavy experience
