About the Role

The Lead Platform Engineer is responsible for the design delivery and operation of enterprise platforms supporting major client transformation programmes.

Acting as both a technical leader and trusted client advisor the role combines hands-on engineering people leadership and customer engagement. The successful candidate will work directly with client stakeholders architects and programme teams to ensure platform solutions are secure scalable and aligned to business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and delivery of cloud and platform solutions for major client programmes.
Build trusted relationships with client technical and delivery stakeholders.
Act as the senior platform engineering representative in client meetings workshops and governance forums.
Provide technical leadership during discovery architecture mobilisation and delivery phases.
Lead and mentor a team of platform engineers.
Define platform standards engineering patterns and operational best practices.
Drive automation through Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.
Ensure platforms are secure resilient and compliant with client and regulatory requirements.
Support solution development estimates bid responses and technical assurance activities.
Collaborate with architects engineering teams and programme leaders to resolve complex technical challenges.
Act as the escalation point for critical platform and infrastructure issues.
Drive continuous improvement cost optimisation and operational excellence.


Essential Skills & Experience
Significant experience delivering cloud and platform solutions within complex enterprise environments (Azure / AWS).
Demonstrable experience working directly with external clients and senior stakeholders.
Strong consulting and stakeholder management skills.
Experience leading technical workshops and architecture discussions.
Strong Azure expertise and cloud-native engineering experience.
Kubernetes containerisation and modern platform engineering experience.
Strong knowledge of CI/CD automation and Infrastructure as Code.
Experience operating within regulated secure or mission-critical environments.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Experience leading and developing engineering teams.


Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience delivering platform and cloud solutions within Government Defence Critical National Infrastructure
or other highly regulated environments.
Strong understanding of DevSecOps security-by-design and platform governance principles.
Experience with AWS and multi-cloud architectures.
Experience operating and governing Kubernetes platforms at enterprise scale.
Knowledge of modern observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana Prometheus OpenTelemetry and Azure Monitor.
Experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud environments.
Familiarity with Internal Developer Platforms and self-service engineering models.
Experience leading large-scale cloud migration and application modernisation programmes.
Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and operational excellence practices.
Experience with enterprise networking identity management and Zero Trust architectures.
Exposure to data and AI platforms.
Relevant industry certifications such as Azure AWS Kubernetes or Terraform.
