Job Summary

6 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality legal advice and representation across housing and litigation matters managing a varied and complex caseload on behalf of the organisation. The postholder will provide expert legal guidance conduct litigation prepare cases for court and work collaboratively with internal teams courts solicitors enforcement officers and other external stakeholders to achieve effective legal outcomes.



Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a full and varied caseload of housing civil litigation and related legal matters.
  • Provide clear accurate and commercially focused legal advice to internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Take instructions assess legal issues and determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Conduct and manage litigation proceedings including preparing cases for court and representing the organisation where appropriate.
  • Draft pleadings statements notices correspondence agreements applications and other legal documentation.
  • Prepare evidence and case files ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and in accordance with relevant legal and procedural requirements.
  • Negotiate with opposing parties solicitors residents tenants landlords enforcement officers and other stakeholders.
  • Liaise effectively with courts tribunals external legal advisers enforcement agencies and other external bodies.
  • Advise on housing-related disputes possession proceedings tenancy matters injunctions disrepair anti-social behaviour and other relevant housing litigation.
  • Support the organisation in managing legal risk and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation regulations policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate case management records and monitor deadlines hearings costs and case progression.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to provide practical and timely legal solutions.
  • Keep up to date with relevant changes in legislation case law and legal practice.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal services processes and procedures.


Requirements
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister with current authorisation to practise in England and Wales.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in housing and/or litigation.
  • Demonstrable experience managing a complex and varied caseload with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Experience conducting litigation and preparing cases for court.
  • Strong knowledge of housing law civil litigation and relevant procedural rules.
  • Experience providing clear and practical legal advice to internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong drafting advocacy negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands meet deadlines and manage a busy caseload effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to assess legal and organisational risk.
  • Experience working within a local government or public sector environment is desirable.
