Junior IT Technician
Job Summary
Summary
Were looking for a Junior IT Technician to help keep our tech running well and steadily make it better. Its a surprisingly technical place: shared Windows workstations staff MacBooks a lot of label printers and a factory our engineers have wired up with custom IoT sensors and controllers watching the machines.
This isnt a sit-and-wait support role. The heart of the job is projects not a ticket queue so when something breaks youll fix it at the root so it doesnt keep coming back. Youll work closely with our Systems Architect whos mostly remote learning the estate hands-on and taking on a real project from day one. We care more about how you think than whats on your CV.
Who are we
The Oxford Health Company is an award-winning contract manufacturing business specialising in the food supplement market. Since our incorporation in 2013 weve been recognised as one of the Times Top 100 Fastest-Growing Companies in 2023 with an impressive 58% average annual growth over the past three years. Our commitment to excellence has earned us numerous industry-specific accolades including recent 2024 wins at the Oxfordshire Business Awards in both the Large Business and Green Award categories.
We are a dynamic entrepreneurial team driven by a mission to become the UKs leading Food Supplement Manufacturer both in turnover and service quality. Our success is built on offering expert service and the industrys shortest lead times to new and medium-sized brands with high-value propositions.
Our headquarters and manufacturing facility are located in Bicester with a second storage warehouse nearby. Since fitting out our state-of-the-art clean rooms and manufacturing facility in 2019 we have continued to invest in our infrastructure to better serve our customers and enhance operational efficiency.
What will you do
Bringing the Macs under central management setting up MDM so each MacBook arrives provisioned secure and ready to go with the right apps already on it.
Day-to-day network administration learning the ropes with our Systems Architect on hand.
Trialling and speccing new kit with the teams from badge-tap logins on shared machines to our beloved cheap USB label printers tested on a bench first to make sure it actually works for the people using it.
Standardising the Windows workstations a standard image and cold spares on the shelf so a hardware failure means swapping in a replacement not a rebuild.
Working on projects with our Systems Architect youll do the hands-on legwork and feed back what you find. As you grow youll take on more of the direction yourself.
How the role will grow
First few months. Youll take on a real project early the fastest way to learn the estate. Youll also be the first person people message when somethings up: not a queue to sit on but a great way to see how things really work. Youll learn as you go with someone experienced to lean on.
Working together. Mostly you just get on with it but we like to stay in touch a quick note on how its going a snag a win a bit of chat. Nobody will hover asking if its ready. Its how you stay part of the team while the Architects remote.
Where it can go. As you grow youll take on more owning projects and steering their direction thats how the junior comes off the title. Theres room to pull the role toward what genuinely interests you: if the instrumented-factory side is your thing theres IoT and monitoring work with metrics in Grafana; if its networking theres VLAN segmentation and tightening our VPN access; theres scope to bring AI deeper into how we work too.
What Were Looking For
Genuine curiosity about how things work a home NAS Plex server Raspberry Pi or ESP32 project tells us more than a qualification ever could. If youve ever exposed something at home to the internet and stopped to think about how to do it safely thats exactly the thinking this job needs.
No qualifications required and no fixed background whether youre early in your career have a year or two of IT experience or are changing careers entirely. Plenty of great people come to tech from other fields bringing people skills from one life and a homelab habit from the other.
A help them help themselves instinct happy to lend a hand but focused on fixing things at the root so they dont keep coming back.
Comfortable working independently day to day with a habit of keeping in touch a quick note on progress snags and wins since our Systems Architect is mostly remote.
Happy to lean on AI tools for debugging documentation and learning new areas faster.
