Position Overview

The Infrastructure Administrator is a senior technical role responsible for supporting the design implementation and ongoing operation of FortisBCs core data centre and cloud infrastructure. This includes physical computer resources virtualization environments enterprise storage systems and integration with cloud-based infrastructure components. The role contributes to infrastructure planning participates in complex technical initiatives and provides advanced operational support to ensure the reliability scalability and security of backend infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Provides senior technical input to infrastructure planning for data centre and cloud platforms including:
    • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the IS Infrastructure Roadmap.
    • Researching and recommending future infrastructure technology architecture that aligns with business and technology needs product capabilities strategic direction and business best practices.
    • Performing infrastructure capacity planning and technology evaluations in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture IS Applications and business units.
  • Contributes technical expertise to the definition and delivery of infrastructure initiatives and upgrades including:
    • Using the IS infrastructure Technology Roadmap to identify and prioritize infrastructure initiatives to support planning of appropriate projects.
    • Contributing to the definition of functional and technical requirements scope sequencing and technical dependencies.
    • Contributing technical estimates and supporting documentation (e.g. effort/resource requirements options impacts assumptions) to support project planning and funding considerations.
    • Leading the execution of a portfolio of IS Infrastructure projects in coordination with external service providers and suppliers to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of business technology initiatives.
    • Developing and executing communication plans related to infrastructure upgrades transitions and site impacts
    • Identifying conflicts between IS infrastructure project requirements and enterprise policies standards or architecture and recommending solutions.
    • Participating in technical change management activities quality control reviews testing and production turnover activities
  • Supports the design implementation and ongoing improvement of core hosting platforms and services including:
    • Contributing to the design implementation and continuous improvement of infrastructure platforms including physical compute resources virtualization storage cloud and compute in alignment with organizational standards and strategic direction.
    • Analyzing and processing complex infrastructure requests to confirm the specified technology is appropriate for clients needs and will operate within FortisBCs infrastructure environment.
    • Assessing technical impacts recommending alternatives where appropriate and specifying technical work in detail for implementation by service delivery partners.
  • Provides advanced technical support to company infrastructure current systems including:
    • Responding to support calls and infrastructure-related outages
    • Troubleshooting advanced infrastructure problems across hardware and software (server hardware virtualization hosts storage performance/capacity issues backup failures)
    • Performing and leading upgrades installations and preventive maintenance tasks for data centre infrastructure platforms.
    • Repairing infrastructure software and/or hardware and working with external vendors to obtain repairs when necessary.
  • Supports data centre operations and physical infrastructure activities required to sustain platform reliability including:
    • Setting up delivering installing relocating and decommissioning data centre equipment
    • Documenting work in the problem management system preparing progress reports and administering and maintaining corporate data centre
  • Maintains up-to-date superior knowledge of the companys infrastructure systems.
  • Coordinates multiple resources and breaks down work estimating and managing the activities required to deliver intermediate to large-scale infrastructure projects successfully.
  • Provides senior-level technical support and collaboration with Technical Systems Analyst and other Admin roles.
  • Collaborating with Network and Systems Administrators to diagnose and resolve cross-domain incidents impacting infrastructure services
  • Performs additional duties related to the above duties including driving a vehicle which do not affect the rating of the job.
Requirements
  • 2-year Diploma in Computer or Electronics Technology Computer Science or related field.
  • 8 years experience related work experience.
  • Advanced expertise with infrastructure monitoring and automation tools
  • Advanced knowledge of data center server and virtualization data storage and backup cloud technology and architect cyber security and peripherals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills including the ability to work in a fast paced changing environment.
  • Ability to execute large projects.
  • Ability to analyze problems.
  • Leadership and management skills.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Drivers license.
