Job Summary

An Outstanding secondary school in St Albans Hertfordshire is looking to appoint an experienced HR Officer to join its busy and professional support team from October Half Term 2026.

This is a varied HR role supporting staff throughout the employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through to absence employee relations and general HR administration. Youll work closely with senior leaders and line managers providing a reliable and professional HR service across the school.

The role would suit an experienced HR Officer HR Advisor or Senior HR Administrator who is looking to build on their existing experience within a supportive education environment.

The Role

Youll be involved across a broad range of HR activity including:

  • Coordinating recruitment and onboarding processes

  • Completing and monitoring pre-employment and safer recruitment checks

  • Maintaining accurate employee records and the Single Central Record

  • Supporting managers with HR policies and procedures

  • Assisting with absence performance and employee relations matters

  • Liaising with payroll regarding starters leavers and contractual changes

  • Preparing HR reports and workforce information

  • Supporting staff wellbeing and employee engagement initiatives

  • Maintaining HR policies procedures and documentation

  • Handling sensitive employee information with a high level of confidentiality

About You

Youll have previous experience in an HR or people-focused role with a good understanding of employment processes and strong administrative skills.

Experience within a school academy or wider education setting would be beneficial particularly knowledge of safer recruitment and the Single Central Record. However candidates with solid HR experience from other sectors are encouraged to apply.

Youll be organised approachable and confident communicating with people at all levels. The ability to manage confidential information and deal with sensitive situations professionally is essential.
