Job Summary

Attendance can have a huge impact on a young persons education and were currently working with an Outstanding secondary school in Hampshire that is looking to appoint an experienced Attendance Officer to join its support team.

This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people communicating with families and using data to identify where additional support may be needed. Youll work closely with the pastoral team and senior leaders helping the school maintain strong attendance and ensuring concerns are followed up promptly.

The Role

Youll take responsibility for the day-to-day monitoring of attendance and will play an important part in identifying and addressing attendance concerns.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality

  • Following up unexplained and persistent absences

  • Contacting parents and carers regarding attendance

  • Identifying patterns and concerns within attendance data

  • Maintaining accurate attendance records and systems

  • Supporting attendance improvement plans and interventions

  • Working closely with pastoral staff and senior leaders

  • Arranging and supporting attendance meetings

  • Producing attendance reports and providing relevant information to staff

  • Keeping detailed records of communication and actions taken

  • Supporting strategies to reduce persistent absence

  • Following safeguarding attendance and school procedures

Who Were Looking For

The school would ideally like to hear from someone with previous experience working as an Attendance Officer within a school.

However relevant experience in school administration pastoral support family liaison or education may also be considered.

Youll need to be confident communicating with parents and students comfortable working with data and able to handle potentially sensitive conversations professionally. Organisation persistence and attention to detail are particularly important in this role.
