Healthcare Assistant (HCA) Minehead Medical Centre Permanent Part-time 20 hours 13.00 per hour (Dependent on experience)

Are you a caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant who is passionate about supporting patients and delivering high-quality care in a primary care setting

At OneMedical Group we are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our multidisciplinary primary care team. Working alongside GPs Nurse Practitioners Nurses and other Healthcare Assistants you will help provide safe effective and compassionate care while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the service.

This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys working directly with patients. Under agreed protocols and the indirect supervision of a registered clinician you will carry out clinical observations and routine healthcare procedures support health promotion and help patients to manage their wellbeing and long-term conditions.

You will also help prepare clinical rooms maintain equipment and stock support infection prevention standards and contribute to a positive patient journey from arrival through to completion of care.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Assistant you will work within your competence and under agreed clinical protocols to support safe effective and patient-centred care across the service.

Your day-to-day will include:

Patient Observations and Procedures: Undertaking and accurately recording routine observations and procedures for which you are trained including blood pressure pulse temperature height weight BMI urinalysis venepuncture ECGs peak flow readings and other physiological measurements.

Health Checks and Long-Term Conditions: Supporting new-patient and NHS health checks and helping the clinical team provide proactive care for patients living with long-term conditions.

Health Promotion: Offering appropriate information and practical support around healthy lifestyles smoking exercise diet self-management and access to relevant external services.

Clinical Support: Supporting the nursing and medical teams with dressings clinical observations minor surgery LARC procedures nebulisation therapy and other delegated activities within your training and competence.

Vaccinations: Administering influenza shingles and pneumococcal vaccinations under indirect supervision where appropriately trained and where a valid Patient Specific Direction is in place.

Clinical Environment: Preparing and maintaining clinical rooms and equipment keeping stock areas clean and organised and ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked and ready for use.

Safety and Infection Prevention: Following infection prevention and control standards supporting emergency equipment checks and maintaining cold-chain records including daily fridge-temperature monitoring.

Teamwork and Patient Experience: Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team maintaining patient privacy and dignity protecting confidentiality and supporting reception duties where required.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Healthcare Assistant who is comfortable working with patients follows clinical guidance carefully and contributes positively to a busy multidisciplinary team.

You will ideally bring:

• Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant or in a patient-facing healthcare role.
• Experience supporting patients with minor illness or within a primary care environment.
• Training and competence in relevant clinical observations and procedures or a willingness to develop these skills.
• An NVQ Level 1 healthcare qualification or another relevant healthcare qualification would be desirable.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
• A clear understanding of confidentiality patient dignity infection prevention and safe working practices.
• Good organisation accuracy and attention to detail.
• The ability to manage your time and workload effectively in a busy environment.
• Confidence using clinical systems and general computer applications.
• A proactive flexible and positive approach with a genuine interest in developing your professional and clinical skills.
• Experience using NHS or primary care systems supporting clinical audit mentoring colleagues or contributing to clinical governance would be advantageous.
• Most importantly you will be someone who puts people first works well with others and is committed to providing safe respectful and compassionate care.
