Health and Safety Operative

One YMCA has grown significantly over the last five years and as we enter a period of accelerated growth with ambitions to both diversify and strengthen our housing provision we have established a new Place & Environment Team.

The Health & Safety Operative (Compliance Technician) will play a vital role in supporting the Compliance Team in ensuring building health and safety and property compliance across our estate. The post holder will carry out delegated compliance tasks including but not limited to:
Routine testing and checks related to fire safety systems in line with regulatory requirements
Monitoring and supporting the management of legionella control systems
Assisting in the oversight and performance monitoring of external contractors
Responding to urgent site issues such as leaks power outages and fire alarm system faults
Completing minor repairs or DIY tasks as required
Demonstrating and training housing colleagues on the use of fire alarm systems and related safety equipment

The role will also include providing additional support to the Repairs Team during periods of high demand. A flexible proactive approach and a broad knowledge of building maintenance are therefore essential.
Alongside practical duties the post holder will be responsible for maintaining accurate digital and written compliance records. They will also support with site inductions for new housing staff ensuring they understand key safety and compliance procedures.

This role is a key part of One YMCAs customer-focused service delivery. The post holder will:
Uphold the highest standards of quality and workmanship
Ensure all work is completed safely efficiently and in line with internal standards
Demonstrate a professional reliable approachsaying what I do and doing what I say
Work collaboratively with the Place & Environment Team while being confident working independently when required

Due to the nature of the services provided an enhanced DBS will be required as will a full driving licence.

This is a Full Time role.
Hours per week: 37.5
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week. Due to operational requirements employees may occasionally be required to work unsociable hours particularly in emergency situations.

One YMCA and its subsidiaries the Early Childhood Partnership (ECP) and Signpost are on an exciting journey to double our impact by 2025. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts Beds and Bucks that reach over 135000 individuals annually.

• Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
• Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire

• Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
• Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire Luton and Hertfordshire
• Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
• Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
