Job Summary

Fire Engineer Nuclear New Build Hinkley Point C & Sizewell C

We are seeking a Health and Safety professional with some Fire Regulations experience to join a specialist Nuclear Safety & Environment team supporting two of the UKs largest nuclear new build projects. This is your opportunity to contribute to the fire safety design and assessment of nuclear facilities ensuring compliance with nuclear safety requirements and UK fire regulations.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment you will collaborate closely with safety systems civil building design and plant layout teams to develop and maintain fire protection strategies across key nuclear facilities.

Your Mission:

  • Fire Safety Studies: Conduct assessments for Nuclear Island buildings and evaluate combustible materials and fire risks within designated plant areas.
  • Fire Modelling: Perform temperature evolution calculations using specialist software (e.g. MAGIC) to assess fire consequences and propagation risks.
  • Safety-Critical Analysis: Evaluate the impact of fire on safety-critical systems and identify common cause failure risks.
  • Technical Support: Provide fire engineering support to systems layout and design teams and assess the impact of design modifications on existing fire studies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Undertake regulatory assessments relating to fire and life safety requirements and develop fire prevention and protection solutions.
  • Documentation: Prepare and deliver technical reports in line with project quality standards and programme requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in technical committees task forces and design reviews representing the Fire Engineering and Nuclear Safety disciplines.

Qualifications :

  • Health and Safety professional
  • any fire experience would be great

The below are just nice to haves:

  • A degree in Fire Engineering Mechanical Engineering Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in fire safety engineering risk assessment or safety case development within a highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of ETC-F (EPR Technical Code for Fire) would be appreciated.
  • Experience and knowledge of UK Fire Regulations including BS9999.
  • Ability to propose fire protection and detection solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex technical issues.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience within the nuclear sector or other safety-critical industries would be advantageous.
