Head of Year – Secondary Academy in Reading (ASAP Start)
Job Summary
A thriving secondary academy in Reading is seeking an inspiring and experienced Head of Year to lead the academic progress behavior standards and pastoral wellbeing of an assigned year group for an immediate (ASAP) start.
Job Overview
Pastoral care and character development play a central role in this schools ethos. The successful applicant will take strategic leadership over the academic tracking attendance targets personal development and behavior interventions for a full year group cohort.
Working closely with Form Tutors Safeguarding Officers SENCOs and parents you will deliver weekly year group assemblies oversee academic progress monitoring implement behavior support plans and coordinate year group events. This is a full-time ongoing or permanent role.
Key Responsibilities
Lead line-manage and support a team of Form Tutors to deliver consistent pastoral routines and registration standards
Monitor and analyze academic progress attendance data and behavior metrics across the year group cohort
Implement targeted behavior interventions pastoral support plans (PSPs) and restorative justice conferences
Plan and deliver engaging weekly year-group assemblies aligned with SMSC and whole-school values
Serve as the primary liaison point for parents external welfare agencies and social care teams
Coordinate key year-group milestones including transition evenings parent consultation nights and awards ceremonies

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or extensive professional pastoral leadership experience in a secondary school
Proven track record of successfully managing secondary student behavior attendance and pastoral interventions
Thorough understanding of secondary safeguarding standards (KCSIE) SEN provisions and student mental health
Exceptional leadership conflict resolution and communication skills
An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
