Head of Year – Secondary Academy in Bristol (ASAP Start)

A vibrant secondary academy in Bristol is seeking an inspiring and experienced Head of Year to lead the academic progress and pastoral wellbeing of a assigned year group for an immediate (ASAP) start.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious pastoral leader or experienced teacher passionate about removing barriers to learning driving positive behavior and guiding young people through secondary education.

Job Overview

Pastoral care and character development play a prominent role in this schools culture. The successful applicant will take strategic leadership over the academic tracking behavior standards attendance targets and personal development of a full year group cohort.

Working closely with Form Tutors SENCOs Safeguarding Leads and parents you will deliver weekly year group assemblies implement behavior interventions oversee academic monitoring and manage pastoral support plans. This is a full-time ongoing or permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead line-manage and support a team of Form Tutors to deliver high-quality pastoral care and registration routines

• Monitor and track the academic progress behavior metrics and attendance data for the entire year group cohort

• Implement targeted behavior interventions pastoral support plans (PSPs) and restorative justice conferences

• Plan and deliver engaging weekly year-group assemblies aligned with SMSC and school values

• Act as a key liaison point for parents/carers external support agencies and social care teams

• Coordinate key year group events including transition evenings parent consultation nights and awards ceremonies

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or extensive professional pastoral leadership experience in a secondary school

• Proven track record of successfully managing student behavior attendance and pastoral interventions

• Deep understanding of secondary safeguarding standards (KCSIE) SEN provisions and adolescent mental health

• Exceptional leadership communication and conflict-resolution capabilities

• An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
