Job Overview

Mathematics is central to the schools academic vision. The successful candidate will take full strategic responsibility for the Mathematics department driving curriculum development data tracking and pedagogical standards across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 (GCSE Higher and Foundation) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics).

Leading a team of specialist mathematicians you will cultivate a culture of numerical fluency problem-solving confidence and academic ambition across all year groups. This is a full-time permanent position designed for a proven leader committed to educational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership vision and curriculum mapping for the Mathematics department across KS3 KS4 and KS5

  • Line manage mentor and develop department staff conducting regular lesson observations and work scrutinies to maintain teaching standards

  • Implement rigorous data tracking systems to monitor student progress and coordinate targeted exam preparation interventions

  • Lead on the delivery of GCSE A-Level Mathematics and A-Level Further Mathematics specifications to maximize pupil attainment

  • Coordinate departmental involvement in external competitions including the UKMT Mathematics Challenges and regional masterclasses

  • Oversee the departmental budget digital learning software subscriptions and textbook resourcing

  • Serve as a Form Tutor contributing to the holistic pastoral framework of the school

  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership on whole-school numeracy strategies and academic policies

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will feature:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)

  • Proven track record of outstanding GCSE and A-Level Mathematics outcomes

  • Previous departmental leadership experience (e.g. 2i/c Key Stage Coordinator or experienced Head of Department)

  • Exceptional analytical organizational and interpersonal leadership skills

  • An ambitious scholarly and supportive approach to leading a core academic department
