Job Summary

GUNNERY OFFICER - ROYAL NAVAL AIR STATION CULDROSE

Primary Purpose

To be the SO3 Executive Officer (adhering to tradition the post holder will be known as The Gunnery Officer (Guns)) of the Executive Department and is to work directly for the First Lieutenant. Tasking will involve; security discipline training ceremonial volunteer band divisional recreation welfare and general organisation that contributes to the smooth and efficient running of the Air Station.


Secondary Purpose


As the Gunnery Officer exercise management control and assist:

  • Establishment security in conjunction with ESyO.
  • Ceremonial and Military Training requirement.
  • Culdrose Volunteer Band.

Superiors


The Gunnery Officer is accountable to the First Lieutenant.

Authority


The Gunnery Officer is authorised to:

Liaise with MOD Police Civil and Military Authorities as necessary.

Subject to the functional authority of the Principle Director of Music Royal Marines (PDM) for all matters relating to the VB.

Liaise with RMBS SO2 Band & RNVBA Chairperson as necessary.

Liaise with Supply Officer (Music) (SO(M)).


Principal Tasks


The Gunnery Officer is to:


  • Act as the Station Ceremonial Officer planning and executing ceremonial events including Freedom Parade Station Divisions Wings Parade Madron Trafalgar Parade Helston Remembrance and Truro Remembrance Parades.
  • Act as the Military Training Officer ensuring WHTs and ACMT delivery of Small Arms.
  • Act as OIC Station Armoury.
  • Act as Duty Exec as part of Duty Watch Roster.
  • Ensure that laid down professional standards and high military bearing is maintained throughout the Air Station.
  • Act as the Royal Navy Volunteer Band HMS Seahawk Band Officer.
  • Manage the Civilian VBI including contract financial renumeration and compliance with their TORs.
  • Act as a member of the central RNVB Committee and attend quarterly RNVB Committee Meetings.
  • Act as RNVB HMS Seahawk Treasurer and conduct 6-monthly & annual finance audits.
  • Actively seek sponsorship to financially support the band.
  • Maintain a register of all Band Members and attendance and prepare all band correspondence iaw JSP101 including preparation of Blue Band articles.
  • Act as the security sponsor for all civilian members of RNVB HMS Seahawk.
  • Produce annual RNVB HMS Seahawk report by 31st
  • Ensure that Music Library is maintained in conjunction with RMBS Central Librarian.
  • Ensure that all band instruments are maintained stored and secured.
  • Maintain the RNVB HMS Seahawk PLR liaising directly with SO(M) in all matters relating to instruments and kit.
  • Plan and manage all RNVB HMS Seahawk rehearsals to ensure that the band is fully prepared for performances.
  • Actively seek plan administer and manage all RNVB HMS Seahawk performances.
  • Ensure that all JSP440 requirements for performances are met including PME & UCE requirements.
  • Plan and manage the annual RMBS assurance visit rectifying observations promptly.
  • Act as the Assistant Unit Liaison Officer (AULO) for Station CDT visits iaw SOP N1/2 Compulsory Drug Testing.
  • Act as the Funeral Officer for RNAS Culdrose.
  • Act as a Casualty Notification Officer.
  • Act as the Divisional Officer and 1RO and 2RO for military staff.
  • Act as CS Line Manager for the Small Arms Maintenance team.
  • Act as 1RO & 2RO for all MPGS staff.
