Geotechnical Engineer

ALTEN is supporting one of the UKs largest and most complex nuclear new build programmes Hinkley Point C (HPC). We are seeking a talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our engineering team in Bristol and contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure and nuclear construction activities.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment you will provide geotechnical expertise throughout the design assessment construction and operation phases of major civil engineering works. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a nationally significant project while developing your career within a leading engineering consultancy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver geotechnical engineering assessments and technical studies for major infrastructure projects.
• Review and interpret ground investigation data laboratory testing and geological reports.
• Support foundation design earthworks retaining structures and slope stability assessments.
• Prepare geotechnical calculations technical reports and design documentation.
• Collaborate with civil structural and construction teams to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
• Review contractor submissions and provide technical recommendations.
• Identify and manage geotechnical risks ensuring compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in design reviews technical meetings and stakeholder discussions.

Qualifications :

Required Skills:

• Experience working in geotechnical engineering within infrastructure energy nuclear rail or major construction projects.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics foundation engineering and ground investigation techniques.
• Experience using relevant geotechnical software and analytical tools.
• Ability to prepare and review technical reports and engineering calculations.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Knowledge of UK engineering standards and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

• Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership (ICE GeolSoc or equivalent).
• Experience within highly regulated industries such as nuclear defence or energy.
• Familiarity with Eurocodes and UK design standards.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure programmes.
