Job Summary

Join DN Colleges as a Functional Skills Maths and English Assessor within our Adult Skills Online team. This role is focused on supporting learners to successfully achieve Functional Skills Maths and English qualifications through high-quality online delivery assessment and learner support.

Working closely with learners and colleagues you will play an important role in tracking progress marking assessments supporting attendance and achievement facilitating examinations and ensuring learners receive the guidance they need to complete their programme successfully. You will contribute to curriculum development quality assurance activities student recruitment and enrolment while promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables all learners to fulfil their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and support learners studying Functional Skills Maths and English programmes online.
  • Mark assessments and monitor learner progress attendance retention and achievement.
  • Provide learner guidance coaching and support to help students successfully complete their qualifications.
  • Manage administrative processes relating to admissions enrolment assessment examinations and record keeping.
  • Facilitate and support the booking and delivery of examinations.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and the continuous improvement of courses and learning materials.
  • Deliver effective blended learning tutorials and learner support activities.
  • Maintain accurate learner records and ensure compliance with college funding and awarding body requirements.
  • Support quality assurance processes course reviews self-assessment activities and target setting.
  • Recruit and enrol learners and participate in promotional events such as Open Days Admissions Events and Roadshows.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues programme teams and external stakeholders.
  • Promote safeguarding equality diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the role.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant subject-related degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
  • Minimum Level 2 Maths and English qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of Functional Skills curriculum qualifications and quality frameworks.
  • Excellent communication organisational IT and learner support skills with a commitment to safeguarding and equality.

  • In DN Colleges we call this role Functional Skills Maths and English Assessor but you might know this as Functional Skills Tutor Functional Skills Trainer Maths and English Tutor Adult Skills Tutor Functional Skills Coach.

Lets Teach Programme
Lets Teach The LETs teach programme supports new members of teaching staff in terms of college systems and key teaching and learning areas including new staff lesson visits and postcard peeps. Each new member of staff has an allocated Lead Practitioner who works closely with them throughout the programme.

Lets Bloom
The LETs Bloom Programme aims to connect our experienced and qualified teachers to share best practice and support continued risk-taking as we continue to add depth to our teaching craft. Teachers volunteer on this one year programme working closely with the Learning Enhancement Team capturing their experimentation in a journal.
