A large vibrant 11-18 academy in central Birmingham is seeking a committed French Teacher to join its established Modern Foreign Languages department. This is an excellent opportunity for a linguist who enjoys working with a genuinely multilingual student body and who wants to play a part in raising the profile of language learning across the school.

The successful candidate will teach French across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (AQA) with the possibility of A-level teaching for the right candidate. You will be expected to plan lessons that build students confidence in speaking listening reading and writing making effective use of the departments digital language platforms. Responsibilities also include helping to organise the departments annual exchange visit to France supporting EAL students within MFL lessons and contributing to whole-school language and culture days.

This is one of Birminghams larger 11-18 academies serving a richly diverse community in which many students speak more than one language at home. The school has invested significantly in its language facilities including modern language labs and is keen to grow uptake of languages at GCSE and A-level. Staff describe a department that is ambitious but supportive with a strong sense of shared purpose around celebrating multilingualism as a strength of the school community.

Requirements

  • Degree in French (or French as part of a joint honours degree) and QTS

  • Fluency in French with strong subject knowledge across the curriculum

  • Experience teaching mixed-ability classes in an urban setting

  • Enthusiasm for promoting languages and supporting extracurricular MFL activities

  • Good IT skills including confidence with digital language-learning platforms
