Job Description
FPGA / Digital Systems Engineer (Contract)
We are working with an engineering team seeking an FPGA / Digital Systems Engineer for a 35 month outside IR35 contract based in Bristol (hybrid).
This is a hands-on role building real-time digital systems that directly interface with MEMS and photonic hardware. The FPGA is a core part of the sensing system directly impacting stability noise performance and overall system behaviour.
What youll do
- Design and implement FPGA systems for high-speed sensing and control (MEMS photonics ADC/DACs)
- Build and stabilise real-time control loops (PLLs AGC feedback systems demodulation)
- Translate control theory and signal processing into robust RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog)
- Manage timing latency jitter noise and numerical stability
- Develop Python-based verification and automation tooling
- Own verification using structured testbenches assertions and automated testing
- Support lab bring-up and hardware debugging
What were looking for
- Strong FPGA experience on real hardware
- Background in control theory or signal processing
- Experience with feedback systems (e.g. PLLs control loops)
- Comfortable working across digital analog and physical domains
- Strong verification discipline (not just waveform debugging)
Details
- Contract: 35 months
- Status: Outside IR35
- Location: Bristol (hybrid)
- Rate: 50-70 per hour
