A successful secondary school in Watford is looking to appoint a passionate and practical Food Technology Teacher to join its Technology Department from September.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys combining theory with practical learning and who wants to help young people develop valuable skills in food preparation nutrition food science and product development.

The successful candidate will teach students across the required key stages and will be expected to create lessons that are both educational and hands-on. You will help pupils understand the principles behind food preparation while also giving them opportunities to apply their knowledge through practical activities.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful Food Technology Teacher will be expected to:

• Teach Food Technology across KS3 and KS4

• Plan practical and theoretical lessons

• Develop students knowledge of food preparation and nutrition

• Teach pupils about ingredients food science and healthy eating

• Demonstrate appropriate cooking and preparation techniques

• Support students in developing their own food products

• Assess practical work and written assignments

• Prepare students for relevant examinations and assessments

• Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene and classroom safety

• Ensure equipment and ingredients are used appropriately

• Manage practical lessons effectively

• Differentiate activities for students with varying abilities

• Encourage creativity and independent thinking

• Support students in evaluating and improving their work

• Contribute to departmental planning and curriculum development

About You:

The school is looking for a Food Technology Teacher who is enthusiastic practical and well organised.

You should be comfortable managing a practical classroom environment and understand the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.

You will also need to be able to explain technical and scientific concepts clearly and encourage students to develop both their practical skills and theoretical understanding.

Experience of teaching Food Technology within a secondary school is desirable although candidates with relevant teaching experience and strong subject knowledge will also be considered.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Qualified Teacher Status or recognised equivalent

• Relevant Food Technology Food Science Design Technology or related subject knowledge

• Ability to teach Food Technology at KS3 and KS4

• Experience teaching within a secondary school desirable

• Strong classroom and practical workshop management

• Excellent organisational skills

• Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare

• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

• ECTs are welcome to apply

• Overseas-qualified teachers may be considered where appropriate

• Legal ability to work within the UK
