Job Summary

Who We Are:

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTCs Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT) helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs schools and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of this project we are currently looking for aField Engineer MEP Systems to join our team.

What You Will Do:

Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)

  • Establish roll out and enforce project-specific Quality Control Plans and ITPs for all mechanical electrical plumbing and low-voltage systems.
  • Lead formal inspections of all incoming MEP equipment components and bulk materials to verify absolute compliance with approved engineering submittals and product standards.
  • Coordinate and sign off on initial mock-ups for repetitive or critical system installations to lock in visual and technical quality benchmarks early.
  • Conduct daily meticulous walkthroughs of the job site to audit physical workmanship checking critical metrics like pipe slopes duct sealing conduit support spacing and cable tray integrity.
  • Author issue and track formal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Maintain the projects digital quality punch list and perform strict re-inspections before closing out deficiencies.

Testing Commissioning & Validation

  • Act as the primary site witness and validating authority for all mandatory MEP tests including hydrostatic piping pressure tests duct leakage testing and electrical continuity/megger checks.
  • Execute detailed pre-functional checklists to verify that all equipment is properly anchored aligned lubricated energized and safe for initial startup.
  • Coordinate and lead field walks with municipal building inspectors utility providers and third-party commissioning agents to secure mandatory structural and system sign-offs.
  • Review and officially sign off on MEP quality checklists before permission is granted to close drywall or pour concrete over embedded services.

Technical Field Engineering & Documentation

  • Review construction drawings schematics and manufacturer specifications to independently verify that field installations match engineered layouts.
  • Evaluate technical Requests for Information (RFIs) regarding physical site constraints ensuring proposed field solutions do not compromise system performance or code compliance.
  • Audit field drawings and redlines continuously to ensure as-built records are an accurate real-time reflection of the physical site installation.
  • Compile index and audit all signed testing logs material certifications valve charts and warranties into the final project Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.

Quality-Related Safety Compliance

  • Ensure strict field compliance with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) protocols and safe boundaries during high-risk pressure testing and electrical energization phases.

Experience You Will Bring:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Building Services Engineering or a highly relevant quality systems discipline.
  • 35 years of dedicated experience in construction verification site testing or technical field auditing specifically for MEP trades.
  • Significant experience with blueprint reading schematic interpretation and physical inspection methodologies.
  • Proficiency with digital Engineering project management softwares management and punch-list software (e.g. Autodesk SmartSheet STACK etc.).
  • Deep working knowledge of localized building electrical mechanical and plumbing codes (e.g. Ontario Building Code National Electrical Code ASHRAE).
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others as a team.
