A progressive Secondary School in Swindon is seeking a professional proactive and exceptionally organised Facilities Assistant to join their busy estates and support team. This is a brilliant opportunity for a practical individual with a background in basic building maintenance logistics or commercial caretaking to take on a key support role managing school operations and campus readiness in Wiltshire.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Site Manager to maintain the safety security and day-to-day functionality of the school campus. Your core responsibilities will include executing first-line building repairs (such as minor plumbing adjustments basic carpentry fixes and paint touch-ups) maintaining a spotless physical environment and monitoring site deliveries. You will also take operational responsibility for the daily setup of assembly halls examination spaces and community letting venues as well as updating facilities requests and asset logs via the schools digital management portal.
You will maintain an approachable professional presence on-site serving as a primary link with teaching staff students and external visitors. Outstanding time management and a proactive approach to safety are essential as you will balance urgent repair requests with regular statutory checks including emergency lighting logs and fire door integrity audits.

Proven practical experience in building maintenance caretaking or a physical trade discipline
Strong hands-on competency in general maintenance tasks (minor DIY carpentry basic plumbing repairs)
Clear understanding of basic health and safety protocols manual handling and safe chemical usage (COSHH)
Basic IT literacy with absolute confidence checking digital work tickets and updating tracking logs
Ability to work flexibly to meet the operational demands of a busy active school site
