In this hands-on and imaginative role you will be the vital link between artistic inspiration and practical execution supporting teachers and helping students turn raw materials into stunning coursework portfolios.

Job Overview

Working closely with the Head of Art and the creative faculty the Art Technician will take day-to-day responsibility for preparing specialized art materials maintaining studio equipment managing display spaces and ensuring a safe clean and inspiring environment across our dedicated art studios and ceramics areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Studio & Material Preparation: Prepare canvas boards stretch screens clay plaster carving blocks and specialist painting or printing media for daily lessons and exams.

• Equipment & Kiln Maintenance: Clean maintain and safely operate studio equipment including pottery kilns printing presses sewing machines hot wire cutters and digital cameras.

• Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to COSHH guidelines regarding toxic pigments solvents glazes and ceramics dust maintaining clean and safe studio spaces.

• Resource & Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels for art supplies order replacement materials and specialist tools and keep prep rooms and storage cupboards meticulously organized.

• Exhibition & Display Management: Mount frame and curate student artwork to create vibrant wall displays around the academy and help stage GCSE/A-Level exhibition showcases.

• Student & Teacher Support: Assist art teachers during practical sessions by setting up resources demonstrating safe tool or kiln handling and supporting students with technical guidance.

Candidate Requirements

• Creative Background: A degree in Fine Art Applied Arts Graphic Design or equivalent creative disciplineOR proven professional experience working in an art studio gallery or school technician role.

• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with a wide range of art mediums printmaking techniques ceramics/kiln usage and basic photography or digital media.

• Safety Awareness: A solid working understanding of workshop and studio health and safety standards COSHH and risk management.

• Organizational Skills: High attention to detail strong time-management abilities and a proactive resourceful attitude.

• Compliance Requirement: An enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a readiness to complete a clearance process prior to starting).
