East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work this role will be working in the Safe Suffolk Renters team who work in collaboration with East & West Suffolk Councils.

We currently have an opportunity to join the Safe Suffolk Renters Team as anEnvironmental Health Technical Officer.

As part of the Safe Suffolk Renters Team working alongside our experienced Private Sector Housing colleagues you will take on a varied and rewarding role that combines education advice and regulatory enforcement. You will work directly with residents landlords and partner agencies to drive improvements in housing conditions making full use of the wide range of statutory powers available to the service.

You will build upon your expertise in identifying and resolving housing disrepair and poor housing conditions applying a comprehensive legislative framework to achieve compliance and positive outcomes. The role offers opportunities to undertake a broad range of interventions from providing advice and informal guidance through to formal enforcement action including preparation for Tribunal and Court proceedings where necessary.

We are looking for someone who can confidently manage a varied caseload work effectively under pressure and take a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will have the ability to interpret and apply legislation provide clear and practical guidance to residents and landlords and work collaboratively with colleagues across East and West councils and external partners to deliver lasting improvements in the private rented sector.

What you will need:

You will have a sound understanding of building construction with experience of working in a regulatory role. Experience working for a local authority construction industry or other government role would be an advantage. You will have a minimum of a level 3 qualification (A Level) or a similar equivalent and be a qualified Housing Health and Safety Rating System Practitioner.

You will require your own car and a valid UK driving licence.
