English Teacher – Secondary Academy, Shropshire

A thriving secondary academy in Shropshire is looking to appoint a passionate English Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time permanent position within a school that places reading oracy and a love of literature at the heart of its curriculum.

About the Role You will teach English Language and English Literature across KS3 and KS4 with the opportunity to teach KS5 English Literature or Language depending on experience. Lessons are designed to build confident articulate readers and writers who can analyse texts critically and express ideas with clarity.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4

• Prepare students for GCSE English examinations with potential A-Level involvement

• Plan engaging lessons that develop reading writing and oracy skills

• Support whole-school literacy initiatives

• Set and mark work in line with departmental assessment policy

• Contribute to extracurricular activities such as book clubs or debating

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Strong subject knowledge across KS3 and KS4

• Excellent classroom management skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level English Literature or Language

• Interest in leading or supporting literacy initiatives

• Experience with exam board specifications (AQA/Edexcel)
