About Us

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have beenremanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls forhigh standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for childrento develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours. We aim to support change and learning.

We strive to help every child feel safe giving them an opportunity to heal from trauma and feel supportedin developing a more positive identity. We ensure our children have equal access and opportunity for change and are celebrated for their strengths. We want the children in our care to leave better equipped for life emotionally mentally physically and socially. We aim to support the constructive resettlement and transition of our children whether returning to the community or moving to other custodial settings. We are committed to working in partnership with them and their families significant others and widercommunity organisations to develop a quality regime at the centre.

About the Role

We are now expanding our Education team and we are looking for a Teacher of English to deliveraccredited learning to young people undertaking English study programmes at Oakhill STC.

As a teacher of English you will play an integral part of a childs learning at Oakhill Secure Training Centreto provide and deliver aspiring educational outcomes. You will be responsible for delivering teaching thatdevelops curious inquisitive and committed minds where you help and support the children to exploreand meet their individual needs and interests.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

• To teach a range of English qualifications as directed to a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rated level.
• To develop the curriculum in line with national requirements local community needs and theneeds of employment.
• To develop young people-centred teaching learning and assessment strategies which contribute toincreased retention achievement and progression.
• To prepare and monitor appropriate syllabuses schemes of work lesson plans assignmentsassessment plans and learning outcomes in line with G4S and awarding body requirements.
• To provide regular feedback to young people and to give group and individual tutorial support toenable them to achieve maximum benefit from their course or programme.
• To compile and maintain course and young people records.
• To follow all processes relating to qualifications and examinations including registrations andsubmissions to validating bodies and liaison with the Oakhill STC exams officer moderations andexternal verifiers in accordance with G4S policy.
• To assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading byexample this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & following theapplicable safe systems of work for the role.

• You are required to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and DataProtection Act 2018 and the organisations Data Protection Policies and must ensure that personaldata relating to service users colleagues and others is collected stored processed and disposed ofin accordance with these requirements.
• You must only access personal information necessary for your role maintain confidentiality at alltimes and immediately report any data breaches or suspected breaches in line with G4Sprocedures.

About you

To succeed in this role you will need to be a dynamic and engaging individual with a passion for helpingmentoring and supporting at the heart of everything you do. The role will require you to promote a childcentred approach which prioritises both the safeguarding of the childrens welfare and wellbeing as well asensuring that a stable and secure environment is provided for all the children and employees at the Centre.

The successful candidate must have a formal relevant teacher or training qualification e.g. QTS QTLSDTTLS or PGCE) and holds an English Degree or equivalent.

You will play a huge part in the rehabilitation of a childs future journey and life choices.
