Engineering Manager (Java & Spring Boot)

At Legal & General were looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop a high-performing engineering team while remaining hands-on in the delivery of modern software solutions. Youll work closely with engineering product architecture and business stakeholders to deliver secure scalable and reliable technology solutions that create value for our customers and support our business ambitions.

What youll be doing:

• Leading and developing a team of engineers to deliver high-quality secure and reliable software solutions
• Prioritising planning and overseeing delivery activities to achieve predictable and effective outcomes
• Designing and building scalable maintainable software while remaining an active hands-on engineer
• Coaching mentoring and supporting engineers through feedback and structured development plans
• Embedding a culture of quality testing and security across day-to-day engineering practices
• Driving continuous improvement through delivery metrics operational insights and observability data
• Managing operational readiness incident response processes and technical debt to maintain resilient systems
• Collaborating with product architecture and business stakeholders to remove blockers and deliver customer value

Who were looking for:

• Significant hands-on Java engineering experience including building and operating Spring Boot microservices
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture principles including domain-driven and event-driven design
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and developing people through coaching and mentoring
• Excellent knowledge of test-driven development quality engineering practices and automated testing approaches
• Experience working with CI/CD practices modern version control workflows and software delivery pipelines
• Strong understanding of secure software development operational readiness and observability practices
• Ability to balance technical commercial and delivery considerations while influencing stakeholders effectively
• Passion for building inclusive collaborative environments where individuals and teams can perform at their best
