Data centres are a strategic growth area at COWI. As we scale our presence in this market we are enhancing our multidisciplinary capabilities and working closely with clients to develop reliable efficient and sustainable data centre this role you will engage closely with clients colleagues and partners to develop and deliver data centre projects from early concept through design and implementation.

Thanks to continued expansion we have an opportunity for an Electrical Design Lead to join us. This is a key leadership position responsible for driving the electrical design strategy and technical delivery of large-scale mission critical data centre projects from concept through to commissioning.

Working from our new Bishopsgate offices in London (with travel to Scandinavia as required) youll liaise closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities of the Electrical Lead Engineer

The Electrical Lead Engineer will provide technical leadership for the design and delivery of mission critical electrical infrastructure supporting high-density data centre environments including liquid-cooled and air-cooled IT deployments. The role will be responsible for ensuring the safe resilient efficient and scalable integration of power systems to support evolving rack densities advanced cooling technologies and future capacity expansion requirements while maintaining compliance with project standards statutory requirements and client objectives.

• Lead the design and delivery of MV/LV power distribution systems including oversight of single line diagrams load schedules cable calculations protection schemes and equipment specifications.
• Manage the design and coordination of electrical building services systems including lighting emergency lighting fire alarm security earthing bonding and lightning protection.
• Review and approve electrical designs calculations reports specifications and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to electrical engineers and designers.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams clients and stakeholders to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Undertake technical assurance reviews to verify engineering quality design robustness and compliance with statutory client and company requirements.
• Identify and manage technical risks design changes and engineering issues throughout the design process.
• Support procurement activities through technical evaluations equipment selection and review of vendor submissions.
• Contribute to commissioning testing and handover activities to ensure systems perform in accordance with the design intent.
• Ensure adherence to company quality management systems governance procedures and project delivery processes.
• Promote best practice in health safety sustainability resilience and operational reliability.

On top of that youll have:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering
• Achieved Chartered Engineer status or a similar professional qualification
• Extensive experience in electrical data centre design projects
• The ability to provide technically sound solutions alone and as a discipline lead.
• Experience in using related software including Amtech & other digital design packages.
• Proficiency in working with BIM software such as Revit Open Buildings Designer or similar.
• Awareness and knowledge of energy reduction methods carbon calculations and sustainable design (particularly low energy)
• Familiarity with relevant standards and structured delivery frameworks (e.g. EN 50600 TIA 942 RIBA or equivalent)
