Job Title: Education Welfare Officer (EWO)
Location: Westminster Central London
Salary:per annum (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time Permanent (Term-time only INSET days)

We are seeking to appoint a compassionate resilient and proactive Education Welfare Officer on behalf of a high-performing secondary academy in the borough of Westminster. The school places pupil wellbeing inclusion and attendance at the core of its ethos. Working as part of a strong safeguarding and pastoral support team you will play a crucial role in removing barriers to education and ensuring all pupils maintain strong attendance and engagement.
Monitor analyze and track whole-school attendance and punctuality data to identify patterns of persistent absence.
Conduct home visits and family assessments to support vulnerable pupils and address underlying attendance issues.
Lead trauma-informed interventions and establish early help plans for pupils and their families.
Implement statutory procedures regarding Children Missing Education (CME) fixed penalty notices and court proceedings in line with Local Authority guidelines.
Work collaboratively with external multi-agency teams social care local authorities and the schools Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Proven experience working as an Education Welfare Officer School Attendance Officer or within a child protection / educational social care capacity.
In-depth working knowledge of UK school attendance legislation safeguarding procedures (KCSIE) and local authority legal frameworks.
Proficiency with school management information systems (such as SIMS Bromcom or Arbor) for tracking and reporting attendance data.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and handle challenging conversations with families in a tactful professional manner.
An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
