Hostelling work is not easy and this is more than a job you are an Ambassador for Scotland and you can make a difference to every visitor no matter their age or background.

As Duty Manager use your leadership and team building skills to ensure that your team is working together to ensure the quality and service that your guests receive exceeds their expectations and they want to leave your team amazing reviews and tell everyone that will listen what a wonderful time they had staying in your hostel while visiting Scotland.

Day to day you will manage your team under the leadership of the Hostel/Group Manager to help them be the best that they can be while running a great hostel. Remember you will adopt a hands-on approach and actively take part in the day-to-day routine such as reception housekeeping bed making laundry etc. as required. You will ensure Fire and Legionella procedures are adhered to and also deal with the banking. The hostel has many stairs; therefore some degree of physical fitness is required.

Income is important and we are keen for you to continue reviewing hostel services managing bookings and putting forward proposals as to how we can increase revenue in our hostels.

Many of our hostels are not just self-catering we also provide food and drinks in our cafes or restaurants. We therefore require you to have the appropriate food safety and personal licence training however dont worry if you dont we will make sure the successful candidate has all training in place as part of induction.

Here is what we think you need to be a great Duty Manager:

• can provide evidence of working at duty manager level in hospitality or similar environment
• previous experience of catering for large groups working in busy contract catering environment.
• excellent knowledge of food hygiene HACCP and COSHH regulations and a relevant catering qualification including Elementary Food Hygiene certificate SVQ/NVQ in catering food production.
• can demonstrate amazing customer service skills
• have experience of managing budgets
• confidence directing contractors
• strong evidence of managing teams
• able to build great relations and be involved with the communities that surround our hostels
• a great sense of humour and happy to work alongside the team when needed
• able to complete and provide evidence of basic Disclosure Scotland clearance
• able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK
• have a UK drivers licence and own vehicle
