Dustcart Driver
Job Summary
- Drive and operate a refuse collection vehicle (Dustcart).
- Support the collection of household recycling organic commercial and bulky waste.
- Conduct collections from residential properties flatted developments schools shops council buildings and commercial premises.
- Ensure assisted collections are completed as required and return to missed collections when directed.
- Safely operate a Dustcart in various environments including residential streets and busy urban areas.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and safety checks.
- Report any defects faults or damage promptly.
- Ensure vehicles are operated safely and in compliance with road traffic legislation.
- Navigate restricted access routes and manage parking obstructions as necessary.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure waste is handled and transported safely.
- Report accidents incidents and near misses.
- Promote a safe working environment at all times.
- Wear PPE as required.
- Assist in the safe collection of bulky waste items.
- Manage waste streams correctly and support recycling initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with waste management regulations.
- Professionally handle enquiries from residents and businesses.
- Promote recycling and responsible waste disposal.
- Address service-related queries appropriately.
- Represent the service in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain communication with supervisors throughout the day.
- Complete daily vehicle and collection records.
- Report missed collections contamination issues damaged bins and operational concerns.
- Escalate service issues when necessary.
- Clean UK Driving Licence held for a minimum of 12 months.
- Experience driving Dustcarts or Refuse Collection Vehicles.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically capable of performing demanding tasks.
- Reliable and customer-focused approach.
- HGV Category C Licence.
- Driver CPC Qualification.
- Previous Local Authority waste collection experience.
- Experience in Environmental Services.
- Knowledge of waste management and recycling operations.
- Outdoor operational role in all weather conditions.
- Early morning shift pattern.
- Physically demanding work involving driving loading support and manual handling.
- Daily interaction with residents businesses and operational teams.
- 18.62 per hour (Umbrella)

Experience Essential Experience operating HGV waste collection vehicles. Experience working within waste management or environmental services. Experience supervising or coordinating operational teams. Experience dealing with members of the public. Desirable Previous Local Authority waste collection experience. Additional Information Job Title: Chargehand Driver Waste (HGV) This is a 3-month temporary contract Location: Thamesmead Rate: 18.62 per hour (Umbrella) Pay is provided on a bi-weekly basis Valid HGV Licence CPC and Tachograph Card are essential Previous waste collection or refuse vehicle driving experience is highly desirable Previous Local Authority experience is advantageous Experience leading or supervising operational teams is preferred
