Job Summary

A well-regarded secondary school in Barking is seeking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic DT Technician to join its successful Design & Technology department. This role is to start in September 2026.

Job Overview

This co-educational school in Barking has a positive reputation and a strong community ethos. The successful candidate will provide practical and technical support to the Design & Technology department helping teachers deliver engaging safe and high-quality lessons across KS3 and KS4.

Working closely with teaching staff you will prepare materials and equipment maintain workshops and classrooms support practical lessons and ensure that resources are readily available for students and staff. You will play an important role in maintaining a safe organised and stimulating learning environment.

You will also support the department with stock management equipment maintenance preparation for practical projects and general workshop organisation.

DT Technician Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a DT Technician Workshop Technician or in a similar practical/technical role

  • Experience supporting Design & Technology Resistant Materials Product Design Engineering Food Technology or related subjects

  • A relevant qualification or practical experience in Design & Technology Engineering Construction Manufacturing or a related field

  • Good knowledge of workshop tools machinery materials and practical equipment

  • The ability to prepare resources and equipment effectively for practical lessons

  • Strong awareness of health and safety procedures and safe working practices

  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage stock resources and equipment

  • The ability to carry out routine maintenance and identify equipment requiring repair or replacement

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with teachers students and support staff

  • A proactive reliable and practical approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • A commitment to supporting students and contributing positively to the wider school environment

  • The legal right to work in the UK
