A highly regarded Outstanding secondary school in Hackney is looking to appoint a talented Design Technology Technician to join its thriving DT department. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of a well-resourced department and play a key role in supporting students with practical and creative learning.

The Opportunity

Working alongside experienced DT teachers you will help ensure the department operates safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for preparing practical lessons maintaining workshop equipment and providing hands-on support to students during lessons.

The school has excellent workshop facilities and modern CAD/CAM equipment providing an ideal environment for someone who enjoys working with a wide range of materials machinery and practical technologies.

What Youll Be Doing

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing timber metals acrylics plastics tools and other materials for practical lessons.

  • Setting up and clearing away equipment and resources for KS3 GCSE and A-Level lessons.

  • Maintaining and checking workshop machinery including band saws pillar drills sanders 3D printers and laser cutters.

  • Supporting students and teachers during practical sessions.

  • Ensuring all workshop activities are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety and COSHH requirements.

  • Managing stock ordering materials and keeping equipment and resources organised.

  • Completing routine maintenance and safety checks.

  • Helping to maintain a clean safe and well-organised workshop environment.

What Were Looking For

This school would ideally like to appoint someone who has previous experience as a DT Technician although applications are also welcomed from candidates with relevant practical experience in areas such as:

Carpentry Engineering Product Design Manufacturing Construction Workshop-Based Roles

You should have a good understanding of workshop tools and machinery be confident working independently and have a naturally practical and proactive approach.

Knowledge of CAD/CAM 2D Design SolidWorks 3D printing or laser cutting would be an advantage although training may be available for the right candidate.
