Location: East Finchley North London

Position: Design & Technology Technician (Workshop & Practical Support)

Contract Type: Full-time Permanent / Long-Term (Term Time Only)

Start Date: January 2027 (or ASAP)

Salary / Rate: Competitive Support Staff Scale / Negotiable based on experience

We are seeking an organized practical and dependable Design & Technology Technician to join an Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in East Finchley.

This role plays a crucial part in supporting the DT department across all key stages. You will work closely with teaching staff to maintain workshop safety prepare materials manage equipment and assist students during practical hands-on lessons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare timber acrylics metals and tools for practical sessions across Key Stage 3 GCSE and A-Level.

  • Maintain service and ensure the safe working order of workshop machinery (e.g. band saws pillar drills sanders 3D printers and laser cutters).

  • Ensure strict compliance with Health & Safety regulations (DATA/COSHH guidelines) across workshops prep rooms and storage spaces.

  • Support classroom teachers during practical lessons helping students safely operate equipment and machinery.

  • Monitor stock levels organize materials and manage equipment maintenance records.

Requirements:
  • Prior experience as a DT Technician in a school environment OR a practical background in carpentry engineering or product design.

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g. 2D Design SolidWorks 3D printing) is highly advantageous.

  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to task management.
