Design & Technology Teaching Role in an Independent School

An independent school in Leighton Buzzard is seeking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its successful department from September. About the Role

You will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 delivering engaging and hands-on lessons that develop both practical skills and theoretical understanding.

Students will study areas such as product design resistant materials engineering principles CAD/CAM and iterative design processes building confidence in both making and evaluating design solutions.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level/Level 3 DT qualifications supporting coursework development and examination success.

You will work collaboratively within a supportive department with access to specialist workshops and a strong emphasis on creativity and innovation.


Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Design & Technology across KS3 KS4 and KS5

  • Deliver engaging practical and theory-based DT lessons

  • Support GCSE and A-Level/Level 3 DT preparation

  • Guide students through coursework and design projects

  • Maintain safe workshop environments and procedures

  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning

  • Support extracurricular STEM and design activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

  • Strong subject knowledge in DT specialisms

  • Strong classroom and workshop management skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching A-Level or Level 3 DT

  • Experience working in an independent school setting

  • Ability to contribute to STEM or enrichment activities

  • Experience with CAD/CAM or modern design tools
