Job Summary

CORE PURPOSE

We require an exceptionally skilled creative and forward-thinking Design & Technology Teacher to deliver high-quality practical theoretical and design-led instruction across Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level). Operating within a world-renowned historic independent school environment the successful candidate will inspire highly motivated students blending traditional craftsmanship with advanced digital prototyping architectural theory and industrial design principles to prepare pupils for prestigious university placements and global creative industries.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
  • Advanced Seminar & Studio Instruction: Plan and deliver academically rich highly individualised DT and Product Design lessons that stretch pupils across all technical profiles pushing boundaries in ergonomics sustainability and smart materials.

  • Masterclass Portfolio Mentorship: Provide expert one-to-one tutorial guidance for Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 coursework mentoring students through the production of high-end design folios and complex physical prototypes for GCSE and A-Level assessments.

  • State-of-the-Art Workshop Leadership: Manage elite university-grade workshop spaces with flawless adherence to health and safety standards teaching traditional hand techniques alongside advanced CAD/CAM tools CNC routing 3D printing and laser engineering.

  • Extracurricular & Co-Curricular Enrichment: Contribute dynamically to the schools extensive co-curricular programme leading design societies architectural masterclasses or entering student teams into prestigious national design and engineering competitions.

  • Boarding & Pastoral Commitment: Undertake essential pastoral and evening duties within a traditional boarding house framework supporting the academic social and emotional welfare of residential and day pupils alike.

  • Independent House Framework: Operating completely outside the constraints of the state sector and the national curriculum our school offers total pedagogical autonomy. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualifications: A strong honours degree in Product Design Engineering Architecture or a closely related discipline from a top-tier university. While Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is welcomed it is not mandatory for this independent position; independent school experience or a strong commercial design background is highly valued.

  • Technical Mastery: Exceptional technical capability across both heavy workshop machinery and digital design software (such as SolidWorks Autodesk or Adobe Creative Suite).
