Distribution Fleet Manager

We are looking for a Distribution Fleet Manager to join our team in Basingstoke leading the distribution fleet team and ensuring our customers receive a consistently high standard of service whole providing operational leadership and administrative support across the distribution function.

What will you be doing

Distribution Operations

• Ensure the team has all relevant delivery bookings in place.
• Manage and review route planning to ensure efficient vehicle utilisation and on-time customer deliveries.
• Ensure drivers deliver a consistently high standard of service to customers.
• Ensure all orders are despatched accurately on time and with the correct documentation.
• Establish and maintain task lists for all functions including housekeeping checks.
• Monitor and improve despatch process efficiency to meet and exceed targets and KPIs.
• Ensure compliance checks are carried out on all drivers and vehicles.
• Plan and review peak season vehicle requirements.
• Utilise vehicle routing software to optimise current and future vehicle runs.
• Implement and maintain quality control measures across the despatch process.

Own Fleet:

• Manage the team of directly employed drivers within the own fleet.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant driver and vehicle regulations across the own fleet.
• Support the Head of Warehouse Operations in building and developing the own fleet team.
• Deliver ongoing driver training and development.

People:

• Lead the team responsible for the daily loading of the distribution fleet.
• Provide day-to-day team leadership including performance and absence management.
• Build a culture of continuous improvement through training coaching and support for team members and contract drivers.
• Monitor and analyse team and contract driver performance identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective action.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for the distribution team.

3rd Party Driver Management:

• Manage the day-to-day relationship with third-party delivery partners.
• Ensure all third-party drivers are signed up to the relevant SLA.
• Manage third-party driver performance to ensure customers receive the highest standard of service.
• Carry out daily performance reviews to ensure route sequence OTIF and POD compliance meet our standards.

Service:

• Liaise with internal and external departments to ensure effective coordination across the business.
• Handle and resolve customer queries relating to despatch in a timely manner.
• Work in accordance with Company Health and Safety policies and procedures ensuring all staff comply with Health and Safety requirements.

About you

• Highly experienced in delivering excellent customer service
• Previous experience in use of van route planning software.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor staff and drivers
• Experienced managing 50 drivers in a fast paced high volume environments
• High attention to detail
• Ability to remain calm under pressure

Desirable:

• Excellent geographical knowledge of London and home counties.
