Job Summary

Unit Role: DIO HQOS&TrgRegionprovidesa range of infrastructure and training support functions across the UK and overseas. The organisation is Head of Establishment (HoE) for the UK Training Estate provides direct training support to UK Armed Forces and wider MOD in addition to supporting Cadets Other Government Departments (OGDs) and foreign armed forces. We provide these services overseas in Germany CanadaKenyaand Belize where we are not HoE. DIO HQOS&TrgRegion Permanent Joint Operating Bases (PJOBs) & Far East is responsible for the provision of a Training Estate that is of the right size and standard against the endorsed need fit for purpose safeprofessionally managed sustainable and sensitive to social and environmental considerations. DIO HQOS&TrgRegion PJOBs &Far Eastalso provides infrastructure support functions in the PJOBs andFar East. This encompasses Cyprus Gibraltar the Falkland Islands Ascension Island NepalBruneiand Singapore.

Position Role: On behalf of the DIO Hd OS &TrgRegion theSafe Place Assurance forRanges and Training Areas (SPARTA)Inspecting Officer will provide the Second Line Assurance of a Safe Place to Train for all assignedLive Firing facilities andFieldcraft Training Areas (FTAs)withinone of thesixgeographical Areas of Responsibility (AOR)including one of our Overseas locations through the conduct ofRange andFTABoards timely and correct issue of certification mandatory annual inspection and provision of subject matter expert advice to Range Administration Units (RAUs) agencies and primary duty stationisWarminster however the requirement will be one of flexible/remote working within yourAOR (UK North) including nights out of bed during the Assurance process

Responsibilities:

Timely and effective annual inspection of all active ranges and FTAs with immediate action and response for any issues affecting safety.

Audit and/or provide Staffassistancetowards the production and holding of correct documentation for ranges with Dispensations Approved or Managed Non-Compliant Status and theirtimelyrevision asappropriate.

Prepare licensing documents per individual range and FTA forthe Range Approving Officer including the schedule of firearms weapon systems ammunition and explosive stores restrictions exclusions or limitations to firing practices.

Conduct Range Boards for proposed new build existingmodifiedand permanently closed range facilities along with thetimelycorrect preparation and issue of associated documentation.

Co-ordinate and follow up on 3rdparty assurance back to the Defence Safety Authority via the range database.

Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to all stakeholders including Range Administration Units (RAUs). Ensure compliance with regulation safety and maintenance standards on Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) Ranges and Fieldcraft Training Areas(FTA).

Provide advice and/orassistanceto Range AdministeringUnits (RAUs) for range documentation structural modifications liaising with external range agencies and implementation of MoD ranges policy and safety communications.

Deliver training and advice to RAUs and Range Managers whenrequiredand the provision of SME input to the Overseas and Training EstateSafety Course (OSTESC).

Provide advice to Civil clubs and Police firearms training organisations.

Remain alert to emerging issues and trends which mightimpactoperational efficiencies within theallocatedAoR.

Strive toidentifyareas for improvement and encourage/support change to achieve process efficiencies.

Support problem solving via research and analysis of information toadvisethe best course of action.

Represent DIOOS&Trgat higher formation or external conferences/meetings whenrequired.

Conduct relevant role related training asrequiredtodemonstratecontinued role competency such as:

Audit Training. Safety Risk Management (SRM) Training OS&Trg Estate Safety Course and Safety in Fragile Environments (SAFE).

Whennecessary prepare and undertake travel and overnight staysforrange inspections and meetings.
