Department Overview

Working as part of the wider Birmingham Business School team and reporting directly to the Head of Careers you willdeliver increased student engagement through interactive and highly engaging digital content driving positive experiences and outcomes to all Birmingham Business School students graduates and alumni.

Role summary

The role will operationalise digital technologies that support students and graduates helping to deliver Birmingham Business School and the University of Birminghams employability and student-alumni success strategy.

The post holder will create engaging high-end digital content across a variety of platforms. They will play a key role in the successful delivery of digital developments and keep abreast of the latest innovations and trends and proactively put forward ideas.

The post holder will have a sound understanding of User Experience (UX) and can create digital content optimised for accessibility for all and enhancing the student experience

Main duties

Website and intranet & Social Media

  • Managing the continuous development and growth of BBSs websites and intranet covering all aspects from UX design to testing and ongoing maintenance ensuring it caters to the diverse needs of our UK overseas campuses and online distance learners.
  • Coordinate the design and uploading of diverse content including written images multimedia content while using data-driven insights for informed decision-making.
  • Devise ways to simply and enhance the user experience whilst upholding the Universitys quality standards and branding guidelines.
  • Provide advice and guidance to ensure that consistency and best practice is shared and oversee annual user testing.
  • Create content across all channels which increases engagement with the school and careers service in order to enhance student and graduate success.

Development of learning pathways on CRM

  • Collaborate closely with BBS Careers Careers Network and other University stakeholders to optimise the use of learning pathways on the CRM system troubleshooting where necessary and keeping colleagues and users informed of pathway developments.
  • Coordinate and deliver staff training and manage technical enquiries from all users relating to CRM pathway services.
  • Generate reports on student activity as required.
  • Participate in relevant user groups collaborating with other institutions on projects developments and best practices to enhance and streamline services.

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Contribute to the creation of a wide range of evaluation reports for colleagues across BBS Careers and the wider business school which directly influence the enhancement of our services.
  • Evaluate engagement of websites and CRM pathways to ensure their relevance and accessibility to our diverse range of stakeholders and using the data to advise on changes and implementation of changes.

Projects and other duties

  • Promote train and advise on the effective use of digital technologies within BBS Careers and BBS to elevate the service provision.
  • Create dynamic digital content utilising the student voice and ensuring content meets web accessibility regulations and reflects our diverse student population.
  • Contribute to milestone tracking and key performance indicator monitoring.
  • Proactively identify and escalate issues and risks.
  • Seek opportunities for BBS Careers to support Business School and University objectives by seeking and building relationships with staff across the University as well as external contacts and professional networks.
  • Continuously enhance own skillset to ensure the digital offering meets the evolving needs of the students and graduates.
  • Champion equality and diversity acting as a role model and cultivating an inclusive working culture.
  • Contribute to the Universitys sustainability agenda through resource-efficient work practices.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade.

Required Knowledge Skills Qualifications Experience

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualifications; in the absence of equivalent qualifications relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the student and graduate experience coupled with knowledge of current issues impacting on employability.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with evidence of building and maintaining positive relationshipswith a variety of key stakeholders including students academics and senior managers.
  • Excellent understanding and experience of using web-editing software with knowledge of HTML and a proven track record of enhancing website SEO.
  • Excellent and demonstrable UX design experience with expertise in developing user-centric mobile first content.
  • Excellent IT skills with proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office 365 and using custom systems.
  • Knowledge of app development and custom development including app store publishing.
  • Expertise in developing accessible digital content for a variety of audiences across various platforms.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
  • Sound understanding of GDPR data handling and data security best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to convey complex information for a range of audiences to inform decision-making.
  • Ability to be proactive adopting an innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver multiple projects for multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven organisational skills including experience in project planning.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Collaborative teamwork skills with the proven ability to work across different teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to various audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
