The Role

This is where you come in.

As a DevOps Engineer in our Platform Team youll be hands-on with the cloud platform and pipelines our delivery teams build and ship software on. Reporting to one of our Engineering leads youll work alongside colleagues in a multi-disciplined team take real ownership of your work and need only light supervision to run with it.

This is an AI-first role. As Everflow moves to an AI-executed engineering model youll use the AI code-generation toolchain every day and youll help keep the deployment pipeline that takes reviewed work to production fast and dependable. Well expect you to be comfortable reading reviewing and correcting AI-generated infrastructure code and your judgement about what good looks like matters.

In practice youll work across a mixed estate greenfield AI workloads alongside established services were actively modernising Framework taking an automation-first and AI-first approach to delivery and designing efficient secure cloud solutions with security considered at every layer. Were a Microsoft house with a focus on staying cloud-agnostic as our technology and tooling evolve.

Youll be based at our Peterlee (SR8 2RU) office two days a week under our hybrid working pattern with support for occasional planned out-of-hours work such as releases and other changes best made outside business hours.

Candidates should expect a technical exercise as part of the selection process which helps us understand how you think.

What Youll Do

Youll be hands-on challenged and trusted to make a real difference. Youll:

• Build and maintain secure scalable highly available and cost-optimised cloud infrastructure collaborating on its design with our architects and the wider Platform Team.
• Use our AI code-generation toolchain day to day and review what it produces as carefully as youd review your own work automating throughput wherever possible.
• Contribute to our prompt libraries treating prompts and AI configuration as versioned tested code rather than throwaway text. You will help to keep our platform reliable and predictable.
• Implement and maintain infrastructure as code as well as our CI/CD pipelines principally in Terraform keeping our modules and patterns reusable rather than one-off.
• Build and manage services deployed into Kubernetes on Azure including container configuration and the management of Helm charts.
• Monitor and manage our systems for availability and performance and help improve observability across the estate.
• Keep an eye on what we spend applying FinOps practice to cloud resources and to AI toolchain alike.
• Work with our Security Engineers to build security into what you deploy rather than bolt it on afterwards.
• Support the team in the application of Agile through Scrum and Kanban adopting the usual rituals and our end-to-end processes.

What Were Looking For

Were less about ticking boxes and more about finding the right person a team player and self-starter who is prepared to contribute and help enrich how we do things. Youll probably possess:

Essential

• Solid experience developing deploying and monitoring cloud infrastructure with the judgement to analyse and diagnose problems under minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code Terraform.
• Hands-on experience creating monitoring and managing cloud resources in Microsoft Azure via Azure DevOps working to the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF).
• Ability to build and manage services deployed into Kubernetes including the role of container configuration and the management of Helm charts.
• Experience using AI to do real work code generation coding assistance or infrastructure automation together with the judgement to review its output rather than take it at face value.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell Bash Python YAML) plus a readiness to keep developing that skillset.
• Enough familiarity with software development practice source control branching code review and testing to work as a peer to the software engineers you support. An understanding of code written in C# is an advantage.
• Working awareness of cloud security and DevSecOps practice and the habit of considering security as you build.
• Clear communication and a genuinely collaborative style with a can-do approach and an appetite for continual improvement.

Desirable

• Familiarity with other infrastructure-as-code tools such as Bicep.
• Cost optimisation of deployable resources following FinOps practices including an appreciation of AI compute as a material cost class in its own right.
• Exposure to prompt-framework-as-code: prompts and AI configuration treated as versioned tested and governed libraries.
• An understanding of observability platforms and of building alerting that people act on.
• Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems (Ubuntu) for build servers and containerised deployment.
• Experience of running AI or ML workloads on Azure such as AKS-hosted models or vector data stores.
• Familiarity with Azure B2C or federated account security.
• Business continuity principles and familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in that context.
