Job Summary
A well-resourced secondary academy in Slough is seeking a practical safety-focused Design & Technology Technician to manage workshop spaces and technical machinery for an immediate (ASAP) start.
Role Purpose
Working alongside the DT teaching team the workshop technician ensures all machinery hand tools material stocks and digital manufacturing suites (CAD/CAM 3D printers laser cutters) are fully operational safe and prepared for Key Stage 3 GCSE and A-Level practical lessons.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare timber plastics metals and sheet materials for daily practical lessons using workshop machinery (circular saws bandsaws planers)
Maintain service sharp and repair hand tools power tools lathes pillar drills and workshop machinery
Operate and assist pupils/staff with digital manufacturing equipment including 3D printers laser cutters and CNC routers
Enforce strict workshop health and safety standards in full compliance with DATA and CLEAPSS guidelines
Conduct daily end-of-lesson workshop clean-downs extraction system checks and hazardous material management
Monitor stock levels of timbers acrylics fixings and safety consumables placing supplier orders as required
Offer & Working Conditions
Salary:pro-rata (Term-Time Only 1 week)
Contract: Full-time ongoing or permanent post starting ASAP
Environment: Fully equipped engineering and woodworking workshops CAD/CAM suite and dedicated preparation rooms
Location: Slough location with convenient transport links and on-site staff parking
Candidate Profile
Practical background in carpentry joinery mechanical engineering product design or workshop administration
Valid health and safety certification for secondary school DT machinery (DATA / CLEAPSS machinery training certificates highly desirable)
Proficiency operating traditional workshop tools as well as modern CAD/CAM software and laser cutters
Strong commitment to workplace health safety dust extraction maintenance and risk reduction
Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
