Location: Maida Vale West London

Position: Design & Technology Technician (Workshop & Practical Support)

Contract Type: Full-time Permanent / Long-Term (Term Time Only)

Start Date: January 2027 (or ASAP)

Salary / Rate: Competitive Support Staff Scale (Inner London) / Negotiable based on experience

We are seeking a proactive organized and skilled Design & Technology Technician to join an Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in Maida Vale.

This role is vital to the smooth running of a vibrant and well-resourced DT department. You will work alongside experienced teaching staff to maintain workshop facilities manage machinery and support students in practical Design Technology Product Design and Engineering lessons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare timber metals plastics and tools required for Key Stage 3 GCSE and A-Level practical sessions.

  • Maintain service and ensure the safe operation of workshop machinery (e.g. band saws sanders pillar drills 3D printers and laser cutters).

  • Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety standards (DATA guidelines) across all workshops and prep rooms.

  • Support teachers and students during practical lessons demonstrating tool usage and offering technical guidance.

  • Manage department stock levels conduct annual inventory checks and place orders for materials and consumables.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a DT Technician in a school environment OR relevant background in carpentry engineering or practical design trades.

  • Strong knowledge of workshop machinery and Health & Safety procedures (H&S/DATA qualifications are advantageous).

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g. 2D Design SolidWorks 3D printing) is desirable.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
