We are proud to be investing in our editorial training team with the launch of new schemes to support our journalists as they develop future-facing digital and visual skills. We now want to find the team who will lead this exciting initiative and are looking for journalists and editorial training experts with imagination passion and resourcefulness.
Were looking for adeputy training editor apprenticeships to lead the operational delivery and day-to-day management of our new digital journalist scheme which incorporates bespoke Guardian training and an apprenticeship programme.
In this role youll oversee external provider relationships programme logistics and line management of an assistant training editor apprenticeships as well as directly supporting participants through onboarding reviews and cohort community-building. Youll partner with editorial and HR to deliver targeted training monitor qualification progress and drive organisational editorial excellence.
This is a full-time two-year fixed-term contract or internal staff secondment.
About the role
- Lead the operational delivery and day-to-day management of the new Guardian digital journalist scheme designed to develop editorial talent and incorporating an apprenticeship scheme
- Own relationships with the external apprenticeship training provider and their trainers and coaches
- Develop and maintain apprenticeship programme plans in partnership with the training provider to ensure training meets apprenticeship standards and editorial relevancy
- Design and deliver a successful programme of additional Guardian training that supports the needs of editorial through a transformation process in partnership with the deputy training editor curriculum
- Deliver training programmes in areas of editorial specialism if required
- Ensure programme of external and internal training is delivered to time and the training timetable dovetails with operational needs
- Coordinate programme activities to ensure a consistently high-quality experience
- Deliver onboarding and induction activities for each cohort in partnership with the external apprenticeship training provider
- Monitor apprenticeship qualification completion and anticipate and solve any issues along the way
About you
- You will have experience of delivering apprenticeship programmes (or as a participant) and know how to get the best from them; were looking for someone passionate about this form of learning
- An understanding of and commitment to the highest editorial standards and a great track-record as a communicator
- Experience of leading a team through new and innovative projects and successfully growing team members
- An excellent understanding of the skills journalists need now and a curiosity about the future of journalism and the aptitudes and knowledge journalists will need to build
- Experience designing or delivering training programmes ideally in an editorial setting
- Success in forging relationships with external partners and collaborating to deliver projects that exceed expectations on both sides
- Resilience and a problem-solving mindset when faced with opportunities or challenges
- Ideally youll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
