Job Summary

A bit about the role

Purpose of the Deputy Chair Role:

  1. To support the Chair either as agreed in advance or at moments when the Chair may not be available unexpectedly.

  2. Undertake assignments at the request of and pre-agreed with the Chair.

  3. Work with the Regional Chairs and Regional Representatives to maximise the communication between the Board regions competitions and clubs

  4. Act as an ambassador for the sport of Rowing

  5. Maintain a knowledge of the of the sport and broader sector wide activities to stay relevant

  6. The Deputy Chair will chair a regular Regional Chairs and Representatives Forum - held virtually after a Board meeting.

Person specification

Candidates will bring the following sets of expertise:


Essential

  1. Robust financial management and reporting skills.

  2. Expertise in strategy rapid scaling technology-enabled change marketing or community building

  3. In addition to the skills experience and expertise required to be a NED the Deputy Chair requires strong communication influencing interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

  4. Strong communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and conciselyA clear understanding of and the ability to empathise with volunteers who make an important contribution to running of the sport

  5. A commitment to diversity equality and inclusion.

Additional Information

Terms of appointment


This role is unremunerated and reasonable pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. This role requires attending six to eight Board meetings each year (held in London or virtually) and serving on one Board Committee which typically meets six times addition attendance will be required at one AGM. You need to have the capacity to work out of hours including weekend evening and early morning meetings.


The appointment is for a four-year term (from the date of the following AGM) which can be renewed once at the discretion of the Board.
