Role Overview
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Birmingham is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its progressive learning support team. This full-time term-time-only role involves working closely with pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 who require targeted support for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Speech Language & Communication Needs (SLCN).
The position is well-suited for an experienced SEN Support Assistant or a psychology graduate seeking practical experience within a supportive West Midlands educational setting. Working under the guidance of the school SENCO and class teachers you will help create a structured safe and engaging environment for pupils with individual Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
Direct Pupil Support: Deliver individualised 1:1 and small-group learning interventions tailored to pupils personal EHCP objectives.
Communication & Classroom Inclusion: Utilize visual timetables PECS and simple Makaton to promote communication active involvement and emotional self-regulation.
Behaviour Management: Apply positive behaviour support strategies to assist pupils through transitions and maintain a calm classroom environment.
Progress Monitoring: Record day-to-day pupil achievements and liaise regularly with class teachers the SENCO and visiting specialists (e.g. Speech & Language Therapists).
Qualifications & Skills: Prior experience supporting children with additional needs strong empathy and patience good literacy and numeracy skills and an Enhanced DBS check.
