A thriving secondary school in Sunderland is seeking an energetic adaptable Cover Supervisor to join its classroom support team for an immediate (ASAP) start on an ongoing basis.

Job Overview As a Cover Supervisor you will play a vital role in maintaining continuous learning during teacher absences. You will step into pre-planned lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 taking charge of classrooms maintaining a disciplined environment and ensuring pupils complete the work assigned by absent department staff. This post is ideal for graduates aspiring teachers or experienced youth leaders seeking full-time classroom management experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise pre-set lessons across diverse secondary subjects (STEM Humanities Languages Arts) in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4

  • Create a safe purposeful and structured learning environment in every classroom

  • Enforce the schools behavior management policy consistently handling classroom dynamics calmly and authoritatively

  • Distribute learning materials explain set instructions clearly and support pupils with set tasks

  • Complete electronic attendance registers accurately at the start of every period

  • Collect completed student work and leave clear handover notes for returning class teachers

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualification OR strong secondary classroom/youth leadership experience (Teaching Assistant Sports Coach Tutor)

  • Ability to handle unexpected timetable shifts and manage different subject environments comfortably

  • An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
