Job Summary

3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality legal advice and representation on a broad range of commercial property and land-related matters on behalf of the Council its partners and clients. The postholder will manage a varied property law caseload support client departments and ensure legal services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with professional standards.




Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of commercial property land development landlord and tenant and related legal matters.
  • Provide legal advice to Council departments on property land and highways issues.
  • Draft review and negotiate complex legal documentation.
  • Attend Council Cabinet and Committee meetings to provide legal advice where required.
  • Conduct legal research and provide clear practical advice on property law matters.
  • Instruct Counsel where appropriate and manage external legal support.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with Lexcel quality standards.
  • Record time worked for client charging purposes.
  • Support the Team Leader Property and Contracts with the delivery of legal services.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.


Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience of commercial property law.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex legal documentation.
  • Strong legal research and advisory skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly.
  • Strong negotiation organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities work to deadlines and maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Desirable:
    • Local authority legal experience.
    • Knowledge of local government legislation and developments.
    • Understanding of Lexcel standards.
    • Experience using Iken or other legal case management systems.
    • Knowledge of highways and planning law.

Additional Information
  • Location: Solihull Council offices (attendance as required for meetings and hearings).
  • Hours per Week: 25 hours.
